Crédit Agricole has launched its euro-denominated stablecoin, Euro eXchange Token (EURXT).
EURXT is issued on the Ethereum blockchain by CACEIS, a European asset servicer, and is based on the ERC-20 token standard.
The stablecoin will initially be made available to both investor and corporate clients of CACEIS, forming part of Crédit Agricole’s medium-term plan and commitment to “accelerating its development in tokenised finance”.
A subscription has also been settled to the Amundi money market fund (MMF) using EURXT, said to be the first subscription to a tokenised Luxembourg-domiciled Undertakings for Collective Investment in Transferable Securities (UCITS) MMF settled in euro stablecoin, at the European level.
Commenting on the stablecoin, Olivier Gavaldo, CEO of Crédit Agricole, says: “The launch of our onchain digital settlement currency aligns with our strategic plan and our ambition to support our clients in the progressive adoption of new settlement standards.”
