The Canton Foundation and Meritz Securities have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to advance institutional asset tokenisation in South Korea.
The MoU outlines plans to explore regional cross-border digital asset applications leveraging the Canton Network, jointly evaluate domestic financial tokenisation initiatives, and use Canton’s infrastructure to mobilise tokenised assets as institutional collateral.
The partnership will also focus on institutional blockchain infrastructure and evaluate institutional use cases for tokenised high-quality liquid assets.
The firms intend to expand the scope of their partnership on a step-by-step basis, subject to applicable South Korean regulatory frameworks.
Meritz’s capital markets knowledge and active preparation within the region’s Security Token Offering (STO) regulatory environment will combine with Canton’s global ecosystem of financial institutions, market infrastructure providers, and digital asset venues.
Speaking on the agreement, Viv Diwakar, head of the Canton Foundation, says: “Institutional digital asset adoption depends on close collaboration with financial institutions that bring deep capital markets expertise.
“Meritz Securities’ strengths in institutional financing and structured products position it well to explore new opportunities for tokenisation and collateral mobility in Korea.”
Byungha Kang, managing director of the strategic planning unit at Meritz Securities, adds: “Our collaboration with the Canton Foundation lays the groundwork for exploring how Korea’s capital markets can be linked with global digital asset infrastructure.
“As Korea’s regulatory framework takes shape, we will take a step-by-step approach to assessing how secure and efficient digital asset infrastructure can be put to use.”
