Polygon Chain Development Kit (CDK) has added Besu, an open-source Ethereum execution client run by Hyperledger, as a supported configuration.
Besu is used by firms such as Citi, Swift, and the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation.
Banks and financial institutions will be able to launch a private Besu chain running the Quorum Byzantine Fault Tolerance (QBFT) consensus, natively connected to Polygon’s decentralised cross-chain protocol, Agglayer.
Agglayer also enforces pessimistic proof, in which it treats every connected chain as if it could fail, and will not settle any update in which a chain withdraws more than was deposited into it, Polygon says.
According to Polygon, CDK Besu offers customisable permissioning, Zero-Knowledge bridge security, immediate connectivity between chains, and a single version of each asset on every connected chain.
For banks, Polygon says benefits include using their own validators, client transaction permissions, and round-the-clock cash movement, aiming to eliminate the need for multi-signature bridges or intermediate redemptions in fiat.
