Digital Asset, creator of the Canton Network, has announced the addition of South Korean banking group Shinhan Financial Group and Standard Chartered’s fintech investment arm, SC Ventures, to its previously oversubscribed funding round.
The expansion follows the firm’s recent US$355 million funding round led by a16z crypto, Andreessen Horowitz’s digital asset arm, with participation from institutions across both TradFi and DeFi.
Shinhan Financial Group is also anticipated to support discussions around institutional digital asset adoption in South Korea and aligns with Digital Asset’s partnership with regional multinational conglomerate Hanwha Group.
Digital Asset says the new participants indicate a growing institutional demand for “privacy-enabled blockchain infrastructure” built specifically for regulated capital markets, and the firm’s goal of bringing assets, applications, and regulated workflows onchain through Canton’s infrastructure.
Speaking on the expanded participation, Yuval Rooz, co-founder and CEO of Digital Asset, says: “The addition of Shinhan Financial Group and Standard Chartered to our investor base brings further global reach, market expertise, and ecosystem connectivity at an important moment for both Digital Asset and Canton.”
Alex Manson, CEO of SC Ventures, comments: “Our investment in Digital Asset's Canton ecosystem reflects our conviction that trusted, institutional-grade market infrastructure will be fundamental to enabling scaling digital asset adoption across regulated financial services.”
Seonghun Hong, investment manager, Shinhan Financial Group, adds: “As institutional interest in digital assets continues to grow across Asia, we see significant opportunity to support the development of trusted onchain financial infrastructure in South Korea and the broader region.”
Digital Asset says that, with support from investors and market participants, it plans to continue expanding the assets, applications, and users on Canton, using its newfound capital to expand platform-related offerings.
