Ripple has launched support for real-world asset (RWA) perpetual swaps through Ripple Prime, its institutional prime brokerage.

Institutional clients, including Virtu, are trading RWA swaps on over 100 reference markets, spanning equities, equity indices, ETFs, metals, energy, and FX, Ripple says.

The firm’s RWA swaps are traded through Ripple Prime as principal and reference perpetual futures contracts listed by Trade.xyz on decentralised derivatives venue Hyperliquid.

Ripple USD (RLUSD) can be used as collateral for transactions, and RWA swap exposures can be cross-margined against the other asset classes supported by Ripple Prime.

Speaking on the launch, Michael Higgins, international CEO at Ripple Prime, says: “Institutions want exposure to equities, commodities, and currencies with the round-the-clock access and efficiencies of digital infrastructure.

“With RWA swaps, we are enabling clients to execute increasingly sophisticated trading strategies and actively manage their portfolios in response to today’s dynamic global markets.”

Scotte Moegling, head of business development for digital assets at Virtu, adds: “Virtu is ramping up across emerging liquidity pools, and Ripple Prime's 24/7 cross-margining across asset classes helps us expand our presence more efficiently as markets move toward round-the-clock access.”

The offering is currently available out of Ripple Prime’s Credit Intermediation Vehicle British Virgin Islands licence, and the firm intends to expand the offering to additional regions in the “near future”.
