Jack Henry, a US banking technology provider, has expanded its collaboration with Google Cloud, allowing banks and credit unions to offer tokenised deposits through the Google Cloud Universal Ledger (GCUL).
GCUL is a fully managed distributed ledger service, enabling institutions to tokenise and transfer money and assets on a shared, real-time record with programmable 24/7 settlement capabilities.
According to Jack Henry, it will be the first core technology provider to integrate with GCUL in a bid to help institutions modernise deposit offerings and introduce new payment and settlement capabilities.
Jack Henry says the integration will allow institutions to achieve automated clearing and multilateral netting, without needing liquidity tie-ups or pre-funded accounts.
Speaking on the initiative, Ben Metz, chief technology officer at Jack Henry, says: “Tokenised deposits have the potential to reshape how money moves across the financial ecosystem.
“Our strategy is centred on helping financial institutions navigate emerging technologies and access innovative capabilities through trusted, scalable infrastructure.”
James Tromans, director, Web3 and digital assets at Google Cloud, adds: “Financial innovation should be accessible to institutions of all sizes.
“Google Cloud Universal Ledger provides a secure and scalable foundation for programmable value exchange.”
The initial partnership between Jack Henry and Google Cloud was established in 2022, aiming to accelerate Jack Henry’s cloud-native technology modernisation strategy.
