Aviva Investors and Ripple have launched a tokenised share class of the Aviva Investors Sterling Liquidity Fund, marking the expansion of Aviva’s tokenised fund offering following the launch of a tokenised share class for its US dollar liquidity fund earlier this year.
The launch is supported by institutional digital asset custodian Komainu and Licuido, a digital infrastructure platform, and it will be available to eligible investors with digital wallets, with all assets held by BNY Mellon, the fund’s custodian.
Aviva says the structure has been designed to operate within existing regulatory frameworks, providing a scalable foundation for future distribution and infrastructure.
The sterling fund is an Ireland-domiciled UCITS money market fund and uses the digital twin model.
Over £86 million has been invested in the two tokenised share class offerings, including £50 million in the Sterling Liquidity Fund by Aviva.
The share class is available on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) and targets low-risk returns and daily liquidity by giving investors exposure to short-term, sterling-denominated debt instruments.
Speaking on the launch, Aviva Investors CEO Mark Versey says: “This expansion of our tokenised offering shows our clear intent to be a leader in this area and sets the groundwork for a future expansion of our capabilities.
“We believe tokenised funds can increase efficiency and ultimately lead to improved client outcomes.”
Nigel Khakoo, senior vice president of trading and markets at Ripple, adds: “We are delighted to support Aviva Investors’ second tokenised fund launch on the XRP Ledger, which highlights the rapid pace of fund tokenisation across the investment industry.
“Markets are moving to 24/7 access and settlement is moving to real-time, always-on rails; this launch shows what that looks like in practice.”
