British stablecoin issuer BCP Technologies has completed its purchase of $GOVY, Archax’s tokenised US Treasury bill, settled in Tokenised GBP (tGBP).
tGBP is BCP’s blockchain-native representation of pound sterling
According to BCP, the purchase marks the first time a digital bond has been bought and settled using its stablecoin.
The firm says the transaction demonstrates that blockchain-native settlement is already a possibility using existing market infrastructure.
The initiative follows BCP and Archax’s partnership, formed earlier this year, allowing tGBP holders to access a range of tokenised real-world assets, such as money market funds, government securities, and bonds.
Commenting on the transaction, Benoit Marzouk, CEO and founder of BCP, remarks: “By settling the $GOVY digital bond using tGBP, we have demonstrated that blockchain-native cash can operate alongside digital securities to deliver nearly instant, efficient, and transparent settlement.
“This is another important step towards building truly programmable financial markets.”
Graham Rodford, CEO and co-founder of Archax, adds: “tGBP gives the UK market a sterling settlement instrument that moves at the same speed as the digital assets it is buying — and $GOVY is exactly the kind of asset that benefits.
“With $GOVY in USD and tGBP in sterling, this demonstrates nicely cross-border interoperability too.”
