Binance has made a US$100 million equity investment in Circle, expanding its partnership to promote Circle’s stablecoin, USDC, across the Binance platform, with a renewed term of five years.

USDC will predominantly be promoted in emerging markets, and Circle will provide the infrastructure services to support holding and using the stablecoin.

Binance purchased US$100 million of Circle Class A common stock shares through a private placement at a five per cent discount compared to the market price prior to closing.

For two years after the agreement, Binance has agreed not to sell, transfer, assign, pledge, hypothecate, or dispose of any of its purchased shares, according to Circle’s US Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

Richard Teng, co-CEO of Binance, says: “Circle has earned its place as one of the most credible issuers in the world, spanning USDC, Arc, and the infrastructure reshaping how value moves across borders.

“Our US$100 million investment and five-year commitment represent long-duration conviction.”

Jeremy Allaire, co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Circle, adds that the partnership presents “incredible opportunities to leverage USDC to expand dollar access, support savings and investment with innovative digital asset products”, and reach “businesses throughout global emerging markets”.
