Payward, Kraken’s parent company, and the Bahrain-regulated Singapore Gulf Bank (SGB) have partnered to offer always-on settlement to institutional digital asset markets in specific jurisdictions.
Payward has integrated SGB Net, the bank’s real-time multi-currency clearing network, offering 24/7 instant settlement for transactions to select clients of both firms, initially for US dollar transactions.
The firms say they plan to extend SGB Net to additional clients and currencies in the future.
SGB will also partner with Kraken Prime, Payward’s institutional prime brokerage arm, to access digital asset liquidity for its offerings.
SGB is backed by Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund, Mumtalakat, and Singapore’s Whampoa Group.
Speaking on the initiative, Mark Greenberg, chief commercial officer of Payward, says: “SGB has built settlement infrastructure that reflects the future of digital asset banking and payments.
“Every regulated bank we connect with this way brings us closer to a world where settlement and cross-border payments happen in real time, wherever our clients are.”
Shawn Chan, CEO of SGB, adds: “By connecting SGB Net with Payward and partnering with Kraken Prime, we are bringing settlement and liquidity closer together, giving clients more flexibility in how they fund and manage their digital asset activity.”
