Bybit.eu, the European platform of cryptocurrency exchange Bybit, has had its payments subsidiary obtain an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) licence through Austria’s Financial Market Authority (FMA).
Bybit Payments is set to provide regulated e-money and payment services, in addition to crypto assets, through its Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) approved Bybit EU.
To comply with regulatory requirements, Bybit EU holds the MiCA authorisation separately from Bybit Payments’ EMI licence, with their services set to be unified through the Bybit.eu platform.
Bybit says its subsidiary’s EMI approval will support it in developing strategic relationships with financial institutions, payment providers, and enterprise partners, while reducing reliance on third-party payment infrastructure.
Regarding the regulatory authorisation, Georg Harer, managing director at Bybit EU and Bybit Payments, says: “The EMI licence granted to Bybit Payments is an important milestone in our long-term commitment to Europe.
“Together with the MiCA authorisation held by Bybit EU, it creates complementary regulatory foundations for connecting crypto assets, payments, and everyday financial services through the Bybit.eu platform.”
Bernhard Krick, managing director at Bybit Payments, adds: “This licence enables Bybit Payments to build regulated payment capabilities that complement the crypto-asset services offered by Bybit EU.
“Each entity will provide services within its own permissions, while customers will be able to access those services through the Bybit.eu platform.”
Bybit says it will communicate product launch dates and details of its Europe-wide rollout in the near future.
