Portugal’s Bison Bank has integrated with its subsidiary, Bison Digital Assets, to form a single combined institution.
The firm says the combination is indicative of its belief that cryptoassets and TradFi banking are not separate entities but are “different dimensions of the same financial infrastructure”.
Bison Bank is also authorised to provide digital asset services in the European Union under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation.
Following the merger, Ricardo Martins will transition into the role of chief crypto officer, head of the operations and data department at Bison Bank, from his position as chief crypto officer at Bison Digital Assets.
Martins will serve as Bison Bank’s in-house expert on cryptoassets, providing strategic oversight and advisory support to management and other relevant departments as the bank seeks to develop and expand its digital asset capabilities.
As head of operations, Martins will also be responsible for assisting the bank in scaling its operations, leveraging data as a strategic asset, and driving innovation.
Commenting on his appointment, Martins says that, within the new combined entity, he looks forward “to contributing to the next phase of our journey and helping transform innovation into sustainable, scalable financial services”.
