BitGo has commenced WalletConnect support for its institutional self-custody clients with the decentralised exchange Decibel.

Decibel is designed for spot and perpetuals trading and built on the Aptos network, a Layer 1 proof-of-stake blockchain.

According to BitGo, its institutional clients can access Decibel while their assets are kept in BitGo-connected wallets, retaining existing transaction controls.

Institutions can also connect BitGo self-custody multi-party computation (MPC) wallets to Decibel through WalletConnect; start trades from Decibel’s interface; and approve transactions through the MPC infrastructure and wallet policy engine.

Ethereum and Solana are the initially available blockchains, with support extending to additional networks over time, the firm says.

Commenting on the initiative, Abel Seow, managing director and head of APAC sales at BitGo, says: “This integration connects BitGo’s self-custody wallets to Decibel, giving customers a way to access onchain spot and perpetual markets while keeping the policies, approvals, and controls they already rely on.”

Brylee Whatley, executive director at Decibel Foundation, remarks that “institutions have wanted access to onchain markets for a long time”, but have been held back by the “operational gap between where their assets sit and where the markets run”.

Solomon Tesfaye, chief business officer at Aptos Labs, adds: “Regulated custody is where institutional capital lives today.

“When a custodian of BitGo's standing supports connectivity to a venue on the Aptos network, that is the strongest signal one can ask for.”
