Sebastian Widmann has departed from his role as chief of staff at Komainu following eight years with the digital asset custodian.
Throughout his time at the firm, Widmann also served as head of strategy, general manager, and a member of its Middle East and Africa Free Zone Establishment board.
Earlier in his career, he spent time with Nomura as vice president of digital assets and is a contributor to Forbes on industry matters.
Widmann says that the company, along with its original joint venture partners Nomura, Ledger, and CoinShares, has seen the industry go from discussing the potential of tokenisation to seeing the “largest banks and asset managers” running live initiatives.
He will continue to advocate for Komainu and for “secure, regulated digital asset custody”.
Speaking on his departure, Widmann comments that, through his time there, “it has been a privilege to help Komainu become a key partner in onboarding institutions to this asset class, driving regulatory advancement, and furthering institutional adoption”.
Widmann holds a bachelor’s degree from University College London, with a published thesis entitled ‘The challenges limiting the widespread adoption of Distributed Ledger Technologies’.
