KB Securities, a South Korean investment bank, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Securitize and The Optimism Foundation to explore the development and distribution of tokenised securities for South Korean institutional investors.

The partnership combines KB Securities’ institutional distribution and capital markets capabilities, Securitize’s regulated tokenisation infrastructure, and blockchain technology from Optimism.

KB Securities intends to pursue tokenisation opportunities in stages, starting with a money market fund (MMF) and a fund built around one of KB Asset Management’s main strategies.

The firms anticipate their collaboration will expand to a wider range of financial instruments, including tokenised stocks and American depositary receipts (ADRs), corporate bonds, and South Korean government bonds, as the region’s tokenised securities regulation develops.

KB Securities is also exploring pathways to distribute existing global tokenised funds to domestic institutional clients.

Speaking on the MoU, Kang Jin-doo, CEO of KB Securities, says: “As the tokenisation of diverse assets expands across global financial markets, this agreement is meaningful in that it leverages the specialised capabilities of each company to lay the groundwork for tokenised securities targeting domestic institutional investors.”

Carlos Domingo, co-founder and CEO of Securitize, comments: “Korea is one of the world's most sophisticated capital markets, and KB Securities has the reach and credibility to help bring tokenisation into the institutional mainstream.”

Jing Wang, CEO and co-founder of OP Labs, adds: “KB Securities choosing OP Mainnet for its first tokenised product is an early signal that this model works beyond the US dollar market that has defined the space so far, and it's exactly the kind of partnership we expect to see more of as financial institutions around the world move onchain.”
