IBM has unveiled two capabilities to help financial institutions, governments, and regulated organisations provide digital asset services, with a focus on enterprise-grade security and control.
Clients using IBM Digital Asset Haven will be able to connect to permissioned blockchain networks, including Swift’s ledger, and the offering now has an on-premises beta deployment option.
The beta option includes client-controlled deployment, hardware-backed security, secured key ceremonies and cold storage, and consistent deployments.
The deployment is designed to be run inside a client’s own data centre on IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE, the firm’s mainframe server families.
The beta also supports an ISO 20022 messaging adapter, allowing institutions using the standard to instruct tokenised deposit transactions through the shared ledger infrastructure.
IBM says this will enable institutions to build on existing payment message formats and operational processes instead of blockchain-specific workflows.
Digital assets can be moved 24/7, ahead of final settlement through existing systems, continuing to use Swift standards and a bank’s own compliance processes.
Speaking on the expansion, Tom McPherson, general manager for IBM Z and LinuxONE, says: “By connecting to Swift's shared ledger and extending IBM Digital Asset Haven to on-premises environments, IBM is helping clients participate in emerging digital asset networks while prioritising control of their most critical financial operations.”
