King & Spalding has appointed Jonathan Ching and Andrew Kummer to its Finance and Restructuring practice group, based in the New York office.

Ching represents financial institutions, insurance companies, hedge funds, mutual funds, emerging companies, investment managers, and commodities clients on complex structured finance, derivatives, commodity-linked finance, and digital asset matters.

Prior to the move, he held senior legal and transactions roles at Bear Stearns, acquired by JPMorgan Chase, and D.E. Shaw & Co, and was educated at the University of Southern California and the Fordham University School of Law.

Kummer focuses his practice on complex structured finance and derivatives transactions, advising clients on asset-based lending, securitisations, trade receivables finance, receivables purchases and sales, forward flow arrangements, warehouse facilities, structured notes, bespoke capital markets instruments, and hedging transactions.

He obtained his undergraduate degree from Bucknell University and Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School.

Following the new appointments, King & Spalding has onboarded 12 partners to its Finance and Restructuring practice group in 2026.

Commenting on the hires, Carolyn Alford, co-leader of King & Spalding’s Finance and Restructuring practice group, says: “Their arrival strengthens our market-leading structured finance platform in New York, expands our ability to serve both financial institution and corporate clients, and creates exciting opportunities for collaboration across our private credit, fund finance, insurance, energy, project finance, fintech, and digital infrastructure practices.”

Ching adds: “We are excited to work with colleagues across the firm to help clients navigate increasingly sophisticated financing, derivatives, and digital asset opportunities.”
