CAD Digital, the entity behind Canadian dollar-pegged stablecoin CADD, has appointed Carolyn Wilkins as an advisor to its board.

She brings over two decades of experience to the position, spanning central banking, financial regulation, and economic policy.

Wilkins previously served as senior deputy governor of the Bank of Canada between 2014 and 2020, responsible for monetary policy, financial system stability, and representing the bank internationally.

She is also currently an external member of the Bank of England’s Financial Policy Committee, and a visiting senior policy scholar at Princeton University’s Griswold Center for Economic Policy Studies.

Wealthsimple, an online financial firm, and investment company Urbana are among several Canadian companies supporting the development of CADD.

Speaking on her new role, Wilkins says: “Canada has an opportunity to build sound digital payment infrastructure that reflects the strength and stability of its financial system while responding to how money and payments are evolving.”

Blair Wiley, chief legal officer at Wealthsimple and a director of CAD Digital, adds that Wilkins “brings a deep understanding of financial systems, regulation, and the future of money and payments”, which is valuable to the firm as stablecoins become a “critical part of the Canadian and global financial system”.

Tom Caldwell, chairman of Urbana Corporation and a director of CAD Digital, comments that Wilkins offers a clear market perspective and a “deep understanding” of the financial system, and CAD Digital is “pleased to have her experience contribute to the continued development of CADD”.
