BancaStato, a Swiss cantonal bank, has joined digital asset banking group Sygnum’s B2B platform.
As part of the initiative, BancaStato has connected Sygnum’s API with wealth management and technology provider Avaloq’s core banking system and digital channels to enable regulated crypto trading.
BancaStato is also not using a separate order management system (OMS) in the API integration, in a bid to reduce operational complexity and risk while simplifying feature development.
Clients of BancaStato will be able to buy, hold, and sell Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Solana, with operations executed through Sygnum’s B2B API and native purchases and sales via Avaloq systems and existing infrastructure.
According to the firms, client assets are held in an institutional-grade, multi-layer custody solution, with hardware and software controls, subject to strict governance processes and independent external audits.
Additional asset protection comes in the form of full regulatory and legal compliance off-balance sheet.
Regarding the partnership, Fritz Jost, Sygnum’s chief B2B officer, says: “BancaStato, becoming the first bank on Avaloq’s SaaS environment to enable clients to buy, hold and sell crypto via API with Sygnum directly from within its e-banking platforms, marks a significant step in the maturity and scalability of regulated digital asset infrastructure.”
Curzio De Gottardi, head of the products and services division and vice-chairman of the executive board at BancaStato, comments: “Our seamless integration of traditional assets, investment solutions — and now digital assets — further enhances our group’s future-ready offering.
“We look forward to leveraging Sygnum’s crypto native banking expertise and secure infrastructure.”
Christian Haux, managing director for Switzerland and Liechtenstein at Avaloq, adds: “This project highlights how strong integration allows banks to respond more quickly to new investor expectations, while keeping services on a unified platform.”
The announcement follows Sygnum’s Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) licensing under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation earlier this year.
