Bybit, a cryptocurrency exchange, has appointed Peter Loo as its chief legal and compliance officer, following his stint as general counsel and head of sector development at Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority.
He brings over 25 years’ experience to his new position, spanning investment banking, regulation, law, and digital assets.
Loo will be responsible for leading Bybit’s legal, regulatory, and compliance strategy.
Bybit says the appointment is indicative of its commitment to “strengthening its regulatory architecture” and “aligning with global standards”, as the firm seeks to expand its multi-jurisdictional footprint.
Previously, Loo held senior roles at Barclays Capital, MF Global, and Amber Group.
Commenting on the appointment, Ben Zhou, co-founder and CEO of Bybit, says: “Having worked across regulators, global financial institutions, and Web3 platforms, he understands not only how rules are written, but also how they are applied in practice across jurisdictions.
“Peter's leadership will be critical in strengthening our regulatory foundations and ensuring we scale responsibly on a global level.”
Loo adds: “Bybit has built strong momentum, and my focus is on reinforcing that with the right frameworks, processes, and engagement models so that we can operate in a way that meets the expectations of both regulators and institutional participants globally.”
